Today's Weather: Temperatures Stay Above Average, With Rain On The Way Tonight

All that sunshine and bare ground helped to boost temperatures to the mid-60s on Monday, with the high temperature at Logan Airport hitting 64 — the average temperature for the second week of May.

The non-winter continues, and we are going to have another very mild day with readings in the 50s. The last below average February was actually back in that very cold winter of 2014-15. This year will mark the fifth February in a row that has been above average.

With leap year, the month ends on Saturday, which looks like it will be a pretty chilly day. That will determine how February and meteorological winter finish. But it doesn't matter — it's been a ridiculously warm winter and shows no signs of turning into a cold and snowy spring at the present time.

There is a weak storm system passing to our south today, which will bring some cloudiness, but I think any precipitation will stay out of the area.

Another more potent system will arrive later Wednesday. Temperatures will be too warm for any snow in southern New England, so look for rain developing late in the day or just after the evening commute. The rain will continue Wednesday night into the first part of Thursday, before tapering off.

Friday and the weekend will be colder than average, but not excessively so. In the northern part of the region, skiing across Maine should be quite good this weekend, after an expected 6 to 12 inches of natural snow falls from this upcoming storm.

It looks as though this year, winter is just on vacation and shows no signs of coming back. I think we're going to have to wait until next year at this point.
