Today's Weather: Showers, But More Heat Coming

A warm front pushing through New England overnight and during the morning today will bring high humidity and warmer temperatures. This is also the reason for the showers and thunderstorms. Some of these storms have been strong to severe to the west overnight.

We'll see a bit of a break in the action before more showers and thunderstorms arrive late this afternoon and evening with a cold front.The air behind this front is actually not cold, but just a little bit drier, and we'll see a wind shift.  Temperatures will be warm to hot through the weekend. Beach days are in store for Saturday and Sunday.

Some of the storms this afternoon could be strong to perhaps severe, with the main risk from damaging winds. This will have to be monitored.

There may be a few leftover showers Friday morning, but in general we're looking at a very nice weekend. I expect temperatures tomorrow to reach well into the 80s. That will also be the case on Saturday, with lots of sunshine and no chance of any precipitation.

Sunday and Monday are even hotter, with readings in the lower '90s and moderate levels of humidity — definitely noticeable.

Later next week, temperatures will start to trend a little bit less hot. The average high temperature for the year is reaching its maximum over the next few days, so the fact that it's been so warm is right on schedule.

Thursday: Clouds and sun, a few storms and showers early and again later in the day. Very Humid. Highs around 86.

Thursday night: Some showers and storms early. Partly cloudy and warm. Lows 65-70.

Friday:  An early shower, then lots of sunshine. Highs in the lower to mid 80s.

Saturday: Sun and clouds. Highs around 87.  Cooler on the Cape.

Sunday: Partly cloudy. May shower at night. Highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Monday: Sunny. Highs around 92.

Tuesday: Mainly sunny and hot. Highs near or above 90.
