Massachusetts Again Postpones Jury Trials

Jury trials in Massachusetts, which restarted two weeks ago after being on hold since the start of the pandemic, are once again postponed.

The Trial Court says as of Jan. 26, jury trials will be postponed until at least Feb. 12. Trial Court spokesperson Jennifer Donahue says the Trial Court wants to "review and analyze the trials conducted so far."

Since the trials resumed earlier this month, four jury trials have taken place and one is underway in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn. This first phase of the resumption of jury trials was limited to six-person juries and trials could only take place in those courthouses with appropriate ventilation and coronavirus safety protocols.

The Trial Court has said there is a backlog of some 3,700 cases to be heard by juries.
