A man police say fired multiple gunshots outside a state Department of Transportation facility south of Boston on Friday before fleeing into a nearby wooded area has been apprehended, police said.

The suspect was caught not far from the shooting site at about 11:30 a.m, according to a statement from Middleborough police Chief Joseph Perkins posted on Facebook.

There were no reported injuries.

Police responded to the public works depot in Middleborough just after 9 a.m., police said.

Police said the man fired four or five shots. Area residents were asked to shelter in place and area streets were closed to traffic as police searched for the suspect, who they described as armed and dangerous. The shelter order was lifted after the suspect was caught.
