Officials at TD Garden are strengthening measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among people visiting the Boston venue.

All guests 12 years and older will need to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test, according to an announcement from the venue, the Boston Celtics and Bruins on Wednesday.

The requirement goes into effect next week, on Sept. 30 — the first day of the Bruins' preseason.

The venue already requires guests older than 2 to wear a mask inside, except while eating and drinking, to comply with the city's mask mandate.

TD Garden's announcement noted that some events may have additional requirements as requested by artists or leagues using the venue. Guests should check the event pages on the website for more information.

The Boch Center in Boston, as well as a number of other performance venues, already require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test to attend shows.
