Gunmaker Smith and Wesson, which has been based in Springfield since 1852, is moving its headquarters to Tennessee.

In announcing the move Thursday, the company said the main reason for the move is pending legislation in Massachusetts. It would ban assault weapons from being manufactured in the state and shipped to private residents elsewhere.

Hundreds of jobs will be impacted by the announcement.

New England Public Media reporter Adam Frenier took a closer look.
