5 things to do this weekend, including Boston Calling Night and a Snarky Puppy concert

I've got some treats for you, Boston. Don't worry, they're not black jelly beans. No, these are the Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs (or Cadbury Creme Eggs, if you prefer) of weekend plans. I've hidden a clue for each event in a colorful plastic egg around the city. I'll tell you when you're getting hotter or colder. I'm just kidding. All of the information you need is right here. Feast your eyes and mark your calendar.

Boston Calling Night: The Q-Tip Bandits

Thursday, April 6

The Boston collab we didn't know we needed will pair up this weekend: High Street Place Food Hall and Boston Calling. Get ready for some delicious grooves at Boston Calling Night. It will be a five-hour mini-fest for the senses. Attendees are in for a live performance from local indie-rock band and Boston Calling 2023 artists, The Q-Tip Bandits. The band will serve up their signature blend of funk, soul and jazz before High Street Place's resident DJ spins tracks from this year's Boston Calling lineup. High Street Place restaurants will be open for business — from Dive Bar lobster rolls to Wheelhouse cheeseburgers.

Wicked Queer: Boston's LGBTQ+ Film Festival

Through Sunday, April 9

You can catch the Wicked Queer film fest at various venues across Greater Boston with the intention of showing "compelling films that demonstrate the variety and depth of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community." A mix of features and shorts will show over the course of the festival. Most screenings will occur at the Brattle Theatre, the Paramount Center, and the MFA. Two films you won't want to miss are "Mutt," a movie about the emotional complexities of transitioning, and "L'Homme Blessé," a raw story about lust, love and belonging. The Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour

Friday, April 7

Have you ever wanted to go to California's iconic Monterey Jazz Fest? Rejoice, jazz fan: the fest is coming to you. Monterey Jazz Festival on Tour pulls up to The Cabot in Beverly this weekend with an aim to capture the vibes of the fest in a bottle. Dee Dee Bridgewater and Kurt Elling will sing, joined by musical director Christian Sands on piano, Lakecia Benjamin on alto saxophone, Yasushi Nakamura on bass and Clarence Penn on drums.

Brighton's Community Easter Egg Hunt

Saturday, April 8

This weekend is all about egg-hunting and photos with that famous rabbit. I have it on good authority that the Easter Bunny will be in Brighton on Easter Eve. This free egg hunt will have treats, games and, of course, the aforementioned giant rabbit. The festive celebration is a tradition that began 40 years ago through St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and continues with the support of Brighton Main Streets. The hunt begins at 10 a.m. sharp, so make sure to be on time.

Snarky Puppy in concert

Saturday, April 8

I first learned about Snarky Puppy through their vocal fan and sometimes-duet partner, the great David Crosby. ("A friend turned me on to their music, and I loved it. I loved Michael League's compositions. I loved the joy," he once said.) The late rock legend and legendary Tweeter raved so much about Snarky Puppy that the band's bassist, Michael League, reached out to thank him. Crosby responded to the message immediately, and with his personal number. I love that, and I love their work together. To get a sense of the four-time Grammy-winning troop's offbeat jazzy joy that so enchanted Croz, check out their Tiny Desk concert. Then catch them live at Boston's Roadrunner.
