93-year-old woman drowns off Castle Island, police say

A 93-year-old woman drowned in Pleasure Bay off Castle Island in South Boston, according to the Massachusetts State Police.

Investigators said the woman, whose name hasn't been released, was on a supervised day trip with fellow clients of an adult day care program. When she ventured into deep water without realizing it, she reportedly started panicked and yelled for help before getting submerged.

Police said two friends who were with the victim pulled her to shore before lifeguards performed CPR. She was later taken to  Boston Medical Center, where she died.
