Most people in southern New England can expect a little fresh powder on their morning doughnuts, as a storm whips through the region late Thursday into Friday morning.

The fast-moving storm, known as an "Alberta clipper," will drop a dusting to two inches of snow, with the higher amounts expected north of the Massachusetts Turnpike, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Snow will fall for just a few hours, spreading over the state between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, and ending by 2 a.m. Friday.

"This is a quick moving system and the heavier snowfall rates will be limited to a few hours at most, much of this occurring after the evening commute so limited impacts," the NWS wrote in its forecast.

The wind picks up on Thursday, and lasts through at least Friday evening, according to the weather service. Parts of western and central Massachusetts, and Cape Cod can expect sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 50 to 55 mph.

Once the clipper slips past, you can expect some sunshine and high temperatures in the upper 30s on Saturday, though the wind may make it feel a bit colder on your skin. The wind will continue to blow into Saturday, when there's a chance of some snow showers along the south coast, according to the weather service.
