Results: Biden wins Mass. Democratic primary

President Biden has won the Democratic primary in Massachusetts. The Associated Press called the race for the incumbent just before 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

Given the results of the primary season thus far, that should not come as a surprise.

The real question has been whether a push for a protest vote in Massachusetts had the same legs as it did in Michigan. The push among pro-Palestinian activists to get voters to cast their ballots for "no preference" as a signal of protest against Biden's support for Israel and its war in Gaza has become an unwelcome — though likely small — political issue for the incumbent president. In Michigan, that effort yielded national headlines and a response from the Biden campaign.

That effort to vote for no one seemed to have more energy in Massachusetts than did Biden's actual, if nominal primary opponents. Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips' name remains on the ballot, even if the former ice cream impresario's insurgency hopes have melted into a memory. And businesswoman Marianne Williamson has un-suspended her campaign, giving Biden another actual — albeit longshot — opponent at the national level.
