What to eat at Snowport, according to a food influencer

If you’re looking to do a little shopping or partake in some festive fun, there are plenty of holiday markets to visit around Boston (I should know). You’ll find unique gifts and local vendors at all of them, but Snowport is one of a few that also boasts an exciting food scene.
There are over 120 vendors at the annual Seaport holiday market — with about 20% of those booths offering up ready-to-eat bites. With so many options, it can be hard to choose what to sink your teeth into first. So, I decided to get some advice on how to take on a holiday market from a professional foodie.
If you’re on Instagram, you’ve seen Marwa Osman. Her page, @thecitylists, has more than 160,000 followers who watch her straight-to-the-point videos on things like places in Boston to take a date or where you can find the best sandwich in Massachusetts. Osman visited Snowport for the first time earlier this month, and had some solid advice for eating your way through the market like an influencer.
First things first: plan your trip accordingly so you’re not hangry waiting in long lines. “If you can, go during the week,” she said. “And don’t go on the weekend. As soon as the market opens, it’s at capacity. I’ve never seen a place fill up so quickly.”
Once you’re in, Osman suggests using her method for sampling Snowport’s smorgasbord without getting overwhelmed.
“Bring friends who like to share dishes so you can try a lot of different things,” she said.
Osman also warned not to fill up on the first thing you eat. “I kind of made that mistake at the market,” Osman said. “I drank my whole hot chocolate and then I was like, ‘I have some other things to try after this.’ Rookie mistake.”
Since the eye candy at these markets are endless and our stomachs are not, here are five of Osman’s favorite Snowport bites.

Hot chocolate | The Fat Cactus
“Definitely by far my favorite thing was Tuck’s hot chocolate by The Fat Cactus,” said Osman. She said the loaded hot cocoa features a Tuck’s chocolate truffle in each cup and numerous toppings. “Not only are the toppings amazing, the hot chocolate is actually so good, too. So it’s not just a pretty cup.” she added.

Cheesy goodies | Cheese Louise, Baked Cheese Haus
For cheese lovers, Osman recommends two spots.
“Baked Cheese Haus. You have an option of three sandwiches there — one with ham, one with salami and one with beef. They put that in a baguette, and then they have like a half cheese wheel [where] they just scoop the cheese off and slather it all over the sandwich. And then before they hand it to you, they just take one more scoop of cheese and put it on the top, and it’s just dripping off,” she said. “If you love cheese, that one is perfect to try.”
If that’s too much for you, check out New Hampshire-based Cheese Louise. “They do a simple grilled cheese, but it’s so good,” Osman said. “And you can get it on gluten-free bread, which is great.”

Sweet treats | Love&Flour, Naughty Waffle Co.
Osman also tried cake jars and macarons from Love&Flour, a woman-owned bakery with locations in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. “It’s a layered cake in a jar,” she described. “It has a twist off lid, and you can eat it there and then take it home and continue enjoying it.” The macarons, some of which are gluten-free, also make a great gift to bring to a party, Osman noted.
She also suggests trying a warm waffle from Boston-based Naughty Waffle Co. “I got one called the ‘Banana Split Up.’ It’s a fresh waffle folded into a sandwich with Nutella, strawberry, banana, and some shaved almonds on it,” she said. “And kids love it too, just because it’s chocolatey and messy, but delicious.”
P.S. — You’ve got Osman’s recommendation for the best cup of hot chocolate in the city — but our staff has a few favorite cocoa spots, too. We’ll share our recommendations with anyone who signs up for our Pick Me Up, ARTery, WBUR Today or Weekender newsletters with this link before Dec. 31. (Share this with to your friends, too!)
