Mayor Michelle Wu gives birth to baby girl

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu gave birth to her baby girl Monday — just a day before the mayor's own birthday — according to a city spokesperson.
The 40-year-old and her husband, Conor Pewarski, welcomed baby Mira Wu Pewarski at 2 p.m. She weighed in at 8 lbs, 4 oz and is 20 inches long, according to Wu's office. The spokesperson said both Wu and baby are in good health, and the mayor is in touch with her senior staff.

"Mayor Wu wishes to express her deepest gratitude to the nurses, doctors, and healthcare staff who made this possible for her family and who work everyday to support so many families across the city," the mayor's spokesperson said in a statement.
Wu and Pewarski have two other children, Blaise and Cass. In an email to campaign supporters, Wu’s husband shared photos of baby Mira and her brothers.
“As you can see, the boys are already in love with their new little sister,” wrote Pewarski. “Thank you for all the well wishes — we can’t wait for you to meet her!”

The mayor has previously said she will not take maternity leave, but will scale back on public appearances. Wu postponed the state of the city address, usually scheduled for January, until March. Wu also has a reelection campaign right around the corner.
"The team is ready to be able to represent me where needed out and about," said Wu on WBUR's Morning Edition in December. "I will see how it goes and how quickly I feel ready to be out and about as well."
