Former Mass. education secretary on the impact of closing the U.S. Department of Education

04:06

President Trump signed a long-expected executive order last Thursday calling on U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon to "take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education and return authority over education to the States and local communities."

On Monday, a group of Massachusetts school districts and educator unions filed a lawsuit to block the effort.

Former Massachusetts Secretary of Education Jim Peyser joins WBUR's All Things Considered to discuss what the impact to the state could be.

This segment aired on March 24, 2025.
