Josh Kraft has yet to disclose his 2024 tax return — in fact, he's filing late

Boston mayoral candidate Josh Kraft has yet to release his 2024 tax return, with the preliminary election less than two months away.
In May, the Kraft campaign had said it would release his tax returns “in the near future.” But on Tuesday, his campaign told WBUR his taxes "are in the process of being filed" and that he had asked the IRS for a six-month extension.
In a statement, the campaign said, "Josh’s 2024 tax return is on extension and information regarding the return will be made available when completed."
An extension could push his tax deadline out to Oct. 15. But his spokeswoman, Eileen O'Connor, said the campaign would release information about his return before the preliminary election in September.
Kraft, the son of New England Patriots billionaire owner Robert Kraft, has come under pressure from Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's campaign to disclose information about his finances and business interests. The Wu camp has said it's seeking insight into whether the candidate Kraft has any conflicts of interest between his family’s businesses and city projects.
In a video posted to Instagram, Wu criticized Kraft for “keeping Boston voters in the dark.”
In a statement, a spokeswoman for Kraft did not address why he hadn't disclosed the tax extension sooner; she instead took aim at Wu on issues where the Kraft campaign claims the mayor has not been forthcoming, like the rising cost of White Stadium.
The spokeswoman, O'Connor, declined to answer why Kraft is not releasing his 2023 tax return in the meantime.
At a press conference organized Tuesday by the Wu campaign, David Sullivan, a former top lawyer for the State Ethics Commission, said he was "very concerned" about Kraft's lack of financial transparency.
Wu’s tax return, released in May, showed she and her husband made just over $184,000 in gross income last year, nearly all from her mayoral salary.
This week, new polling by The Boston Globe and Suffolk University found Wu leads Kraft in the mayoral race by 30 points.
