Massachusetts is waking to a world dressed in white.

A massive winter storm moving through the country has dumped over a foot of snow (and counting) on the Bay State. As of midnight Monday, 16.7 inches of snow had already fallen at Logan Airport, according to the National Weather Service.

It's the first major snowstorm to hit Massachusetts since a blizzard in early 2022.

Snow is set to continue through the day on Monday, gradually decreasing as the day goes along.

Plows, snowblowers and shovels were put to the test Sunday into Monday, as state officials and residents alike worked to clear in the constantly accumulating flakes.

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey said in a press conference Sunday afternoon that the state expects to deploy about 3,000 plows and snow clearing equipment on the roads throughout the duration of the storm. She warned the public to stay off the roads and asked for patience as the state works to clear the roads.

" Everybody's doing the best they can, as quickly as they can, but please, be patient with all the teams tomorrow and give them the opportunity to do what they need to do to clean out the snow," Healey said.

A little bit of fun

As the storm ground much of the state to a halt, many took time to explore the snow.

Some brought out cross-country skis to traverse their towns while others used snowboards and sleds to slide around on Boston Common.
