Map: See snow totals for the blizzard of 2026

Move over Blizzard of '78. The Blizzard of 2026 is here.

Snow totals across the region rivaled — and in some cases crushed — the record set for total snowfall during the epic 1978 storm. Providence got 37 inches of snow, smashing the previous record of 28.6 inches set 48 years ago, according to the National Weather Service.

So start collecting those stories for your kids and your grandkids about how bad the Blizzard of 2026 was. It was so bad Market Basket closed! Door Dash shut down! But Dunkin' was open.

The South Shore and South Coast were particularly hard hit. In Massachusetts, Dartmouth saw 37 inches, Somerset and Kingston got 36 inches, and Scituate had 32 inches.

Boston, the North Shore and and central Massachusetts saw (relatively) lower snow totals. The measurement at Logan Airport was just under 17 inches of snow.

Here's a look at how towns across the state faired, based on data from the National Weather Service:

On Tuesday, the state is still digging out. The state's highway administrator, Jonathan Gulliver, said the high winds and quick snowfall made it challenging for plows to start clearing the roads during the storm.

And with piles of snow still stacked up on road sides from the late January storm, it will be a feat to find a place to put this record accumulation of snowfall.
