Tailgating will be allowed at Boston Stadium for World Cup matches

Pre-gaming at Gillette Stadium before the FIFA men's World Cup matches may be a thing after all.

The host committee said Monday that it will permit tailgating this summer in Foxborough on match days.

Boston 26 walked back it's previous "no tailgating" rule for Gillette, which will be dubbed "Boston Stadium" for the soccer tournament.

In a statement Monday the group said, "It was both our understanding and the host venue’s understanding that 'no tailgating' was a tournament-wide FIFA rule." But after seeking clarification, the organization said it was "pleased to share that tailgating will be permitted at Boston Stadium like any other event hosted at the stadium."

Boston 26 said additional information about tailgating will be shared ahead of the start of the tournament. The first match at Boston Stadium is scheduled for June 13. Seven matches will be played in Foxborough through July.

Parking at the stadium needs to be purchased in advance.
