In the late fall of 2007, Bob Lewis was diagnosed with a rare fungal infection called Cryptococcus gattii. He recovered after intensive treatment but was left with complications. The disease emerged on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, 11 years ago and has spread south into Washington and Oregon. (NPR)
