Music Blog 9/11/10

Only A Game Senior Producer Gary Waleik took a couple of days off, so Technical Director John Perotti is handling the music blog again this week. If we're not careful all this power's going to go to John's head. Oh, wait ... it already has.

Here are this week's selections and John's observations about them:

The Simpsons Main Title Theme - Composed by Danny Elfman

Did you know that Danny Elfman was in Oingo Boingo? Do you know who Oingo Boingo is?
Have you seen the movie "Weird Science"? Oh Kelly LeBrock, what happened to your promising career?

Carry Me Ohio - Sun Kil Moon

This song is the music equivalent of cutting into a big onion...here come the waterworks!

Video Game Heart - All Girl Summer Fun Band

Quirky? Poppy? Sure, but more importantly that is one great band name. Even greater is that the All Girl Summer Fun Band was made up of members of The Softies and Cherry Ice Cream Smile.

Money - The Sonics

Maybe this isn't the version of this classic song you're used to hearing, but it surely is the best. The Sonics were pretty much the first punk/grunge band. It's an easy claim for them to back up. In this track for instance, it seems the group has plugged their instruments into toaster ovens and belt sanders instead of amplifiers.

Spider Monkey - Instigators

Only A Game uses only the finest anarcho-punk. On the other hand, we use the worst crust punk, folk punk, glam punk and horror punk.

Disc Golf Life - Rootstand

The Rootstand website really says it all.

This program aired on September 10, 2010. The audio for this program is not available.
