Kiting is both a sport and a spiritual activity in Bali, as participants in kite making and flying competitions put their skills to the test.  Maria Bakkalapulo reports on the competitions that run from June to August, in which kites the size of barn doors are brought down busy roads for Bali's International Kite Flying Competition. On the day of competition, villiage teams of 20-40 men of all ages work together to hoist the kites up and keep them under control, helping competitors to impress judges with their handcrafted kites.  The kite designs range in shape from fish to dragons, as participants pay homage to their Hindu faith as well as their deep connection to the agrarian lifestyle.

This segment aired on July 9, 2011.
