Ryan Braun Wins Appeal

For the first time since Major League Baseball began drug-testing, a player has won his appeal to overturn a suspension based on a positive test.

Reigning National League MVP Ryan Bruan of the Brewers was suspended for 50 games based on an October test indicating an elevated level of testosterone.

According to reports, arbitrator Shyam Das's decision resulted in part from a technicality. Major League Baseball's rules say a sample should be transported to a laboratory on the same day it's taken, if possible. Braun's sample, taken late on a Saturday, was not mailed until Monday.

MLB executive vice president Rob Manfred said the league "vehemently disagreed with the arbitrator's decision."

That decision was announced on Thursday because it had been leaked. The arbitrator's full report is due within 30 days.
