Over the weekend, a member of the Massachusetts Republican State Committee wrote an opinion piece in the Lowell Sun that took aim at Republicans who support Gov. Charlie Baker, calling them "establishment rats." The author, Brian Genest, also accused past leaders of the state GOP of directing political funds away from Republican candidates.

It's the latest signal of the rifts within the Republican Party, which is also divided over the impeachment inquiry in Congress.

We take stock the Massachusetts GOP, the relationship between Baker and party leadership, and what it means to be a conservative in the state.
