MBTA Could Face An 'Existential' Budget Crisis

14:30

The MBTA is facing profound financial challenges, according to a local business-backed fiscal watchdog group. The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation warns by fiscal year 2022, the T could have an operating budget deficit of over $400 million.

The Foundation warns that a shortfall of that magnitude could present an "existential" threat for the agency. We hear from Eileen McAnneny, president of Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, and Jarred Johnson, Chief Operating Officer of TransitMatters.

This segment aired on June 17, 2020.
