Ellison 'Tarzan' Brown was a two-time winner of the Boston Marathon. He was also an Olympic athlete and a member of the Narragansett Tribe in Rhode Island. At a time when his tribe was not recognized, Tarzan Brown was running marathons to feed his family, and putting his heritage in people's living rooms. Still, his name remains relatively unknown.

He is one of two indigenous runners to win the Marathon - the other being Thomas Longboat - who are being honored by the Boston Athletic Association.

We hear from Anna Brown-Jackson, Tarzan Brown's granddaughter. Anna tells us her grandfather ran his whole life, and though she was only seven or eight when he died and therefore never saw him run, she knew his legend, and to her, he was always both grandfather and Tarzan.

This segment aired on October 11, 2021.
