Do you own a pan or piece of cookware that you love? Maybe you remember the meals you've cooked with it - or the day you bought it.

For food writer J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, it's his wok.

It was the 90's and he was a student at MIT, studying biology and living in Cambridge. And he bought his first wok - the wok he still uses today - at a Target in Somerville. He was learning to cook at that time, first at Cambridge's Fire and Ice, then as the chef for his MIT fraternity. He would go on to cook in renowned kitchens in Greater Boston, write a food column for Serious Eats, and even author a children's book called Every Night is Pizza Night.

Kenji's latest adventure is dedicated to the wok. His book includes recipes he grew up eating and loving that were made in one, including many with local connections.

We take your calls and talk to  J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, food writer, blogger, and author of The Wok: Recipes and Techniques.

J. Kenji-Lopez-Alt will be in Boston on March 22 for a cooking class at Milk Street Kitchen. You can buy tickets here. He'll also be at the Coolidge Corner Theater with the Brookline Booksmith on March 23.

This segment aired on March 15, 2022.
