Local author shares summer book recommendations for young readers
ResumeWhen she's not writing fiction for readers ages 8-14, local author Rebecca Caprara runs a book club for kids of that same age. It's called the Middle Grade Book Club at the Silver Unicorn Bookstore in Acton.
Caprara joins us to talk about her latest book, "Worst-Case Collin," and to share some summer book recommendations for young readers.
Here are some of her recommendations:
- "Singing with Elephants" by Margarita Engle. Caprara says, "Margarita is a former Young People's Poet Laureate and award-winning author. Her passion for poetry, nature and her Cuban heritage shines through in all of her novels."
- "Samira Surfs" by Rukhsanna Guidroz. Caprara says, "One of our group’s favorite books so far. A novel in verse about a young Rohingya girl who flees Burma with her family and begins to rebuild her life in a refugee camp in Bangladesh."
- "Turn the Tide" by Elaine Dimopoulos. Caprara says, "[Dimopoulos is a] local author from Belmont. [It's a] verse novel focusing on youth-led eco-activism and plastic pollution," adding the book includes useful resources.
