Overdose deaths in Massachusetts reached an all-time high last year, according to state data. The synthetic opioid fentanyl, which in small doses can shut down a person's breathing, was present in nearly all of the deaths.

We hear from Deb Schmill, of Needham, who started the Becca Schmill Foundation after her teenage daughter died of a fentanyl overdose.

We also speak with the chief of Newton police about how the community is responding to the public health crisis.

This segment aired on June 22, 2022.
