There are more than 90,000 students in Massachusetts that qualify as English Language Learners. That's more than 10% of the total student population.

So how do we ensure we're supporting those students, both in their education and in their day-to-day life?

We talk with Lowell High School history teacher Jessica Lander about her new book, "Making Americans: Stories of Historic Struggle, New Ideas, and Inspiration in Immigrant Education," and one of her former students, Safiya, who was born in Iraq and is featured in the book.

This segment aired on December 22, 2022.
