Sola Mahfouz's 'Defiant Dreams' take her from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to Tufts University

In our latest "Classroom Away from Conflict" segment, we look at how regressive Taliban policies have hindered education for women in Afghanistan through the eyes of Sola Mahfouz, who grew up in Taliban-controlled Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Mahfouz tells the story of how she went from teaching herself English and math online for fear of Taliban retribution to becoming graduate researcher in physics at Tufts University.

Radio Boston spoke with Mahfouz about her new memoir "Defiant Dreams" alongside co-author Malaina Kapoor.
