The closure of the Sumner Tunnel, which began on Wednesday, is expected to bring heavy traffic to the region's already-crowded roadways. That's pushing those who would normally take their car to consider riding the T. Officials at the transit agency say they are prepared to meet the demand: it has made the Blue Line free, reduced rates on one of its commuter rail lines, and more. But is it enough?

We talk with Brian Kane, executive director of the MBTA Advisory Board, Mike Connolly, a state representative from Cambridge, and Jarred Johnson, executive director of Transit Matters, about the T's role in meeting this moment.

This segment aired on July 6, 2023.
