Tents and encampments are now banned in Boston following an ordinance passed by City Council. Tents at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard can now be taken down by law enforcement, provided that people living there have been offered an alternative shelter space.

City Council approved the measure on Wednesday, which was introduced by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu this summer. On Thursday, Mayor Wu and other city leaders held a press conference outlining when and how enforcement can begin.

Radio Boston discusses what the approval of the ordinance could mean for those living in the area.

This segment aired on October 26, 2023.
