This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. But there was a lot more than tea on the ship that those rebels boarded in disguise.

Phillis Wheatley's first published work of poems was among the cargo. Wheatley's quest to retrieve hundreds of copies of her book off the ship as Tea Party tensions boiled over is the subject of the play called "Phillis in Boston." It takes place, and is performed at, the Old South Meeting House.

We speak with the playwright, the actor who plays Phillis, and the head of a nonprofit who put on the play.

This segment aired on November 21, 2023.
