It's been a trying year for Brockton Public Schools.

The system has an $18 million budget shortfall, which could balloon to $25 million this year.

School committee meetings raised concerns about violence, including frequent fights and a stabbing outside of Brockton High that left three students injured last May.

Some school committee members even called for the National Guard at Brockton High, though Gov. Maura Healey denied that request.

Meanwhile, many students lament the focus isn't on their strengths and on letting them learn.

So what do students, families and teachers need? Radio Boston is hears from WBUR's Carrie Jung, who reported on the issues and student perspective at Brockton High, and Joneiha Vega, the a parent of Brockton High students and former educator in the district.

This segment aired on April 2, 2024.
