Long-promised tap-to-pay system for T finally approaching rollout

18:00

Stacy Thompson of the advocacy group Livable Streets and Chris Dempsey of the urban design firm Speck Dempsey join Radio Boston to discuss the MBTA's announcement that it will launch a long-delayed tap-to-pay fare system this summer.

Correction: A guest on Radio Boston incorrectly said the MBTA planned to automatically upgrade passes for riders based on how often they swipe in an effort to cap fees. T officials clarified to say that the proposal, which was listed in a presentation the T released about the new system, is still under review and the T "has not committed to fare capping."

This segment aired on June 4, 2024.
