Playwright Udofia explores how dreams for immigrants in America often play out over generations

Nigerian-American Playwright Mfoniso Udofia wanted to explore the "immigrant dream" and how it sometimes falls apart. She did so in a series of nine plays called the "Ufot Family Cycle."
The first play, "Sojourners," starts with the story of a young Nigerian couple, who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s. The plan was to get an education then return home. For many immigrants, however, things rarely go according to plan.
You can see "Sojourners"at the Huntington Theatre through Dec. 1. Udofia joined WBUR's Radio Boston to talk about the production and her broader work.
This segment aired on November 22, 2024.
