Scientists discover fresh water reserve under seafloor off of Cape Cod

Scientists discovered a massive reserve of fresh water under the ocean floor off the coast of Cape Cod this summer. Researchers have long suspected there were aquifers below the ocean floor. But where they are and how they got there is a mystery.

Brandon Dugan is a  professor of geophysics and hydrologic science at Colorado School of Mines. He was the co-chief scientist on the global expedition that made the recent discovery. Dugan joins WBUR's All Things Considered to discuss the eureka moment.
