The Republican race to challenge Gov. Healey is heating up
This week, a super PAC backing Brian Shortsleeve, one of three Republicans jockeying for a nomination to challenge Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey, published a photoshopped picture of Healey with a sombrero on her head. Accompanying text accused Healey of spending too much on migrant shelters. Shortsleeve quickly distanced himself from the image.
The incident highlights a key tension in the race: Republicans are eager to land blows against Healey, but it's possible hewing too closely to MAGA politics could alienate moderate voters.
Amy Carnevale, chair of the Massachusetts GOP, joins WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the state of the primary.
