Chelsea mom figures out next steps with fewer SNAP benefits

Iris Ivette Montufar, a mother of four living in Chelsea, gets a little over $400 each month in benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Right now, she only has $30 left to support her and her two minor-aged children for November.

She's among the 1 million Massachusetts residents who depend on the federal nutrition program each month. Funding ran out over the weekend amid the government shutdown, but after two federal judges intervened, the Trump administration says it will restart partial benefits.

Still, it's unclear when Montufar and others will start seeing the money.
