Mehmet Ali Sanlikol on his new record that combines poetry and philosophy

New England Conservatory teacher, composer and musician Mehmet Ali Sanlikol has a new record out called “Lessons from Nightingales: Songs of Sufi Mysteries.” It features a local singing group called Blue Heron.

Sanlikol has long elevated Turkish Sufi music. But this record is different for the Grammy nominee. He joins WBUR's Morning Edition to tell us why he feels a deep connection to these songs.
