How Giselle Byrd is navigating the anti-trans harassment against her
When Gov. Maura Healey appointed Giselle Byrd to serve on the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, Byrd said she expected some level of backlash. She didn't expect a viral harassment campaign and death threats.
This month, a popular rightwing X account, known for sparking other anti-LGBTQ+ harassment campaigns, posted about Byrd's appointment. This caught the attention of other pundits, such as Howie Carr and Megyn Kelly.
Byrd, a Black transgender woman, runs a theater company in Boston. She spoke with WBUR Morning Edition Host Tiziana Dearing about how her life has changed following the harassment campaign and why she's determined to stay on the commission.
This segment aired on November 25, 2025.
