As the T tries to move forward, its past looms large

09:27

The MBTA is seeing signs of improvement as it charts a course out of years of dysfunction. In 2026, it'll face one of its most exciting challenges in recent years: The World Cup is coming to Massachusetts. The multi-week event is expected to bring about one million visitors to the Boston area.

But, as the T looks forward, financial entanglements from its past threaten to drag it backwards.

WBUR transportation reporter Andrea Perdomo-Hernandez and Brian Kane, executive director of the MBTA Advisory Board, join WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss the state of the agency.

This segment aired on January 23, 2026.
