How Berklee College of Music is thinking about AI and the future of music

07:32

It’s easier than ever to create new music. Well, technically easier. That's because anyone with the right AI tools can make a song in minutes.

But, the new tech brings new questions like, what makes good music in this era? And, how can the industry ensure that artists and their communities are supported in making music?

Mark Ethier runs the Berklee Emerging Artistic Technology Lab, or BEATL. His job is to prepare Berklee College of Music students for an evolving industry where the use of AI in creating and marketing music is widespread. He spoke with WBUR's Morning Edition about how he's thinking about AI and what excites him about the future of music.

Editor's Note: Ethier is also a member of WBUR's Board of Directors, which does not have influence over WBUR's editorial decisions.

This segment aired on April 1, 2026.
