The amazing and tragic life of Harry Hom Dow, Massachusetts' first Asian-American lawyer

04:11

Harry Hom Dow, the first Asian-American to pass the bar in Massachusetts, ascended from his family's laundry business in Boston's South End to a swanky apartment and thriving law practice in New York City. Then, allegations that he aided Chinese immigrants illegally enter the country derailed his career. He spent the final years of his life back in the South End, in poverty.

Fred Dow, Harry's son, joins WBUR's Morning Edition to discuss his work to preserve his father's story.

This segment aired on May 21, 2026.
