Iraq's First Census In Decades Delayed Over Land Dispute
ResumeIraq's cabinet decided to postpone the country's first population census since 1987 yesterday, largely because of a longstanding conflict over the northern city of Kirkuk. The BBC's Gabriel Gatehouse reports that the city is controlled by the Arab-dominated central government, but it is also in the oil-rich land claimed by the autonomous Kurdish government.
