GOP Celebrates Wisconsin Results, Democrats Look For Silver Lining

It was an historic victory Tuesday for Wisconsin Republican governor Scott Walker, who soundly defeated his Democratic rival in a recall vote called by his opponents after Walker essentially eliminated bargaining rights for most public workers in the state.

The results leave Republicans largely in control of Wisconsin, and they call into question the strength of labor groups, which had poured resources into the fight.

Outside money played a role in the recall election, with governor Scott out-raising his Democratic rival by nearly 10 to 1. Both pro and anti labor groups across the country are looking closely at Wisconsin as they gear up for November. While there is no doubt that this is a major defeat for the Democratic party and for unions, Obama supporters are pointing to exit polls which show that a majority of Wisconsin voters said they would vote for President Obama over Mitt Romney.
