Cease-Fire Between Israel, Hamas May Be Close

Hamas representatives holding talks in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday said a ceasefire with Israel was close at hand, but Israel denied an agreement has been reached to end the current conflict in Gaza.

Violence spiked in the hours leading up to the announcement.

The Israeli army announced its first military fatality, and Israeli missiles have been raining down on Gaza, destroying one Oxfam-supported kindergarten and damaging another there.
