Apple is scheduled to open a manufacturing plant in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, Arizona, later this month. The facility will employ 700 people, with another 1,300 temporary construction jobs.

This region of Arizona calls itself Silicon Desert but has lost a number of high-profile plants in the past decade. The opening of the Apple plant comes as President Obama is championing manufacturing as an economic growth engine, and Apple promises to keep more jobs in the U.S.

Bloomberg News reporter Adam Satariano joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to discuss the projected economic impact of the new plant.
