Businesses With 'Isis' In Their Name Face Conundrum
Play
American companies with "ISIS" in their names have found that sharing a name with the terrorist organization is bad for business.
About 270 companies have "Isis" in their name, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which tracks companies with federally trademarked names.
Some of those businesses are getting negative feedback from customers about their name, and some have gone so far as to change their names.
One of those is Softcard, a tech startup that's a mobile payment app and that used to be called ISIS Wallet.
Softcard's head of marketing Jaymee Johnson joins Here & Now's Sacha Pfeiffer to discuss the name change.
