White House Unveils New Rules Targeting Housing Segregation

Forty-seven years after the passage of the Fair Housing Act, the Obama administration unveiled new rules on Wednesday aimed at ending the kind of housing segregation that exists in cities such as Chicago, Baltimore and Boston.

The new rules require cities and towns to regularly examine and publicly report racially-based housing patterns, and set goals to foster integrated neighborhoods, or face the loss of federal funding.

Emily Badger, who who wrote a big story in The Washington Post profiling efforts to end housing segregation in Chicago, discusses the new rules with Here & Now's Robin Young.
