Download Audio

Juliette Kayyem has worked on security issues for years: she served as assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security in the Obama administration, and was also an adviser to former Attorney General Janet Reno.

Kayyem (@juliettekayyem) also has three children, and in her 2016 book "Security Mom: My Life Protecting the Home and Homeland," she wrote about the parallels between her roles as a mother and security analyst.

The book is out in paperback this week, and today we revisit a conversation Here & Now's Robin Young had with Kayyem last April.

This segment aired on April 24, 2017.
